Day 27 - Smoothies

Summer is a great time to get out the blender and whip up a smoothie for breakfast or a refreshing and healthy snack. I have shown the calories for each drink, but to be more accurate you may want to calculate the calories yourself. Yogurt in particular does not consistently have the same calorie content.

Pineapple Smoothie – 282.7 calories
Makes 1 serving
1 cup light vanilla yogurt
6 ice cubes
1 cup pineapple chunks
Optional: Add coconut and/or strawberries, but add the extra calories.
Combine yogurt and ice cubes in a blender and pulse to break up the ice chunks. Add pineapple and blend.

Strawberry/Kiwi Smoothie – 86.9 calories
Makes 4 servings
1 ¼ cups cold apple juice
1 ripe banana, sliced
1 kiwi fruit, sliced
5 frozen strawberries
1 ½ teasp. honey
In a blender, blend all ingredients until smooth.

Fruit Smoothie – 140 calories
Makes 2 servings
½ cup frozen berries
½ cup crushed pineapple in juice
½ cup plain yogurt
½ cup sliced ripe banana
½ cup orange juice
In a blender, blend all ingredients until smooth.

Banana-Nut Smoothie – 177 Calories
Makes 4 1-cup servings
2 ripe bananas
2 cups pineapple juice
2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
2 teasp. plain yogurt
1 ½ teasp. vanilla extract
6 ice cubes
Combine all ingredients in the blender.
Optional: sprinkle with nutmeg

My pedometer showed 15,769 steps before I dropped it and it broke. I went on to mow the grass for another thirty minutes. Although I've been sticking quite close to 1,200 calories a day I don't seem to be losing any weight. I'm going to limit processed food in the next few days and eat natural food to see if that makes a difference.

I love smoothies but haven't made any for awhile. I used to make a blackberry one. I've been making alot of lemonade lately with fresh fruit added in. I bet eliminating processed food will make a difference. Are you hungry eating only 1200 calories a day? And, Do you go to Weight Watchers at all? I've been going for about 10 yrs and I think it just seems to be getting old. I go because all of us girls there go out to eat lunch afterward. Can you believe it? Again, anything social mostly revolves around food. I have a pedometer but they never seem to work well. Everytime I move it says I took a step even if I just bend over. Is there a secret to using them?
